Building on tradition, driving innovation.
In 1979, Burgess Rural acquired its first agricultural land purchase at Kalkallo, Victoria (see Kalkallo for further info). Over prevailing years, Burgess Rural expanded its Victorian operation by acquiring Glenaroua Station, Mt Piper Park & Targoot, all located near the small town of Broadford. This expansion positioned Burgess Rural as a major agricultural producer in the central Victorian region.
Glenaroua Station is one of the oldest pastoral stations in Victoria, established in 1838 by William Hamilton. A true pioneer of Australian agriculture, Hamilton was the first to introduce sheep to the district.
Burgess Rural proudly continues Hamilton’s legacy, managing its Victorian farming properties from Glenaroua Station and producing sustainable fibre from its fine wool flock.
The Merino wool enterprise remains the backbone of Burgess Rural’s national operations, with high-quality offspring integrated into the dual-purpose enterprise at Lockerbie, NSW.
